Will we be ready???
By Penny Elsley
With WYD only 50 days away, its time for us to pause and ask ourselves the question “Am I ready?” I’m not referring to whether you have registered or packed your thermal blanket for the sleepover or even perhaps whether you’ve arranged to get out of Sydney all together!!! What I am referring to is whether we are prepared for what lies beyond July 2008.

Reading Matt Tennikoff’s article (this issue of Mission and Spirituality News) I am struck by the way he talks about “the generations” in a way that has a sense of the flow of time in a direction which is purposed.

  Reflection

"You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you." (Acts 1:8)
By Father David Ranson

Words tell us a good deal about the national mood. Some years ago, the social researcher Hugh Mackay identified how the word ‘absolutely’ had assumed such pervasive use in common vocabulary. To almost every question, the answer would be ‘absolutely.’ It seemed that, through this word there was a cry from deep within our national psyche for life to be given something ‘definite’ again. The pervasive use of the word betrayed our search for something sure and definite in a context in which nothing seems very sure or definite.
