On a humid summer morning in January I went to Christian City Church at Oxford Falls with about 1500 other believers to hear the Evangelist, Reinhard Bonneke preach. I had never heard an Evangelist, so on the recommendation of a friend I went out to see what it was all about.

Sir William Deane was Governor-General, Paul Keating was Prime Minister and Sir Gerard Brennan was Chief Justice of the High Court. It seemed that we, as Australian Catholics, had finally made it into the mainstream of Australian Society.

VATICAN CITY, FEB. 22, 2008 (Zenit.org).- Although other books may be better written from a literary standpoint, nothing compares to the revealed word of God in sacred Scripture that often "acts beyond human explanation," said the preacher of the Pontifical Household.

The Lenten Journey
“Taking Something On” Father David Ranson
Every now and then one reads the review of a film that seems to have completely got it wrong. I had the experience recently with the reviews of the film by Sean Penn, "Into the Wild." The film is the true story of 22 year-old Christopher McCandless who leaves his family and journeys as an itinerant across the United States, finally achieving his aspiration to experience the vastness of the Alaskan wilderness. What none of the reviews that I read could understand was that the journey is not an exercise of the American pioneering spirit but an exploration of the experience of isolation. The geographical isolation in which McCandless immerses himself is a mirror of the psychological isolation in which he is entrapped.
